The author won for the reality TV show The Apprentice, in which Donald Trump (who offers a foreword) slowly eliminates potential personal assistants until one remains standing. Rancic puts down, in tumbling first-person prose, the strategy he employed to win, too as how, back 1995, he co-founded and ran a tiny mail-order company, Cigars Around the World. Rancic never attended business school, and his book could be boiled into "rely in your observations and common sense, and on your close relationships." Nearly every chapter is full of advice gleaned from members of the family or friends with whom he has collaborated, salted which has a smattering of approaches Rancic picked up from his or her own reading of how-tos and from his work life. The result sets it apart: Rancic takes work seriously, and everything in the book is a thing he personally has tried out; his successes and travails (including a fire at his company) come through clearly and conversationally, as from a major brother. The past 2 of seven chapters cover his time for the show with "Mr. Trump" and provide candid assumes the opposite contestants as well as the show's productions. For a loquacious "how-I-did-it," Rancic's book debut is surprisingly satisfying.
